A calendar of hair ornaments based on native British wild flowers.
I admire the seasonal themes of Japanese hana-kanzashi and wanted to create some new styles based on my favourite plants.
Many of these are not native to Japan so would not traditionally be used there for kanzashi or other decoration.
Although there is not such a strong ceremonial association here, many favourite British plants are evocative of the
seasons. Some may appear only for a short time and are therefore representative of a particular month; others have
traditional or folkloric links to various times of the year.
I used the same techniques and forms as in Japanese maiko kanzashi to create designs based on my favourite seasonal
flowers.
